During the outburst of the coronavirus, social media became the place where many people would spend most of their time on. In the United States, an average American would spend approximately 58 minutes on Facebook daily. However, among younger ages, the go-to place would be Instagram and TikTok.

So what is the reason behind the emergence of TikTok?

TikTok is a social media application for creating, sharing, and watching short videos from 15 minutes to one minute long. It is also a place where users or brands can promote their content in many creative ways. TikTok is becoming extremely popular, especially among young people.

The reason for TikTok’s success lies in its smart algorithm that bombards users with content they want to see and the ease with which anyone can create, share and participate in any creative content.

TikTok can be great for users’ mental health

Psychologists have suggested that TikTok can have a positive impact on the well-being of its users. During the lockdown, people found creative ways to post and share content on the specific platform as a daily routine, which helped them distract themselves from all the negativity that transpired during that period.

In 2021, TikTok had been the most popular app among social media, surpassing Facebook and Instagram.

Despite all the positive environment that TikTok extracts during the Ukrainian invasion, the platform became a go-to place, especially for citizens of Ukraine, to share how their lives had changed from one moment to another. Many people have called the invasion in Ukraine the first TikTok war and how this unfortunate occasion has been a great chance for the app to be taken seriously. The president of the United States, Joe Biden, recently addressed 30 influencers of TikTok regarding the war and how they can help their cause towards disinformation. This action by the U.S. government clearly shows the great power that TikTok currently possesses.

The future looks bright for TikTok, as its unique selling proposition of creating and sharing imaginative content makes it irreplaceable for users.
